Elgin City Match is ‘Kids Day’

East Stirling News Update

Shire have announced a number of initiatives to encourage younger fans to come along to this weekend’s opening Ochilview SPFL League Two match against Elgin City.

Members of the club’s three community teams at under-14, under-15 and under-16 level have all been issued with tickets for the game and are being encouraged to bring an adult along to cheer on the Shire senior team.

Tickets are also being distributed to players with our partners at the Central Girls Football Academy and also to youngsters who have been attending the summer soccer camps at Little Kerse run by our main jersey sponsor, LK Galaxy.

In addition, Shire will for the first time be operating a parent and child gate where every adult who pays full price can bring a primary school age child to the game for just £1.

“We ran a similar venture at the end of last season and it was pretty successful,” said Shire chairman Tony Ford. “We recognise that if we want to move forward with any degree of confidence we are going to have to grow a new generation of fans.

“Our season ticket offer where under-16s pay their age in pounds to see every SPFL League Two game at Ochilview is proving just as popular in its second season as it was in its first and there is still time for school kids who want their own season ticket to take advantage of that offer.

“We will be launching more initiatives throughout the season aimed at getting young people to our matches,” said Tony. “If we do nothing then we run the risk of allowing a generation to grow up thinking football is something that only happens on TV. We need to get kids hooked on coming to games if we want to prosper.”
