Mansfield Town who won 20 of their last 23 games last season in the Conference Premier to end their five-year absence from the Football League are continuing with their good form, winning 1-0 at Leaders Chesterfield on Saturday.

The local derby attracted an impressive attendance of 10,015 and those in attendance witnessed a classic smash and grab raid by Mansfield who took the points largely thanks to Chesterfields largesse in front of goal and some inspired goal keeping Marriott. As it was Calvin Andrew’s first Mansfield goal in the 37th Minute was enough to settle things.

Mansfield have now won 5 of their last 8 games and have climbed into 3rd place 4 points behind the still leaders Chesterfield.

The two will meet again on the 8th October when Mansfield play hosts in the Football League Trophy.

Chesterfield may have made hard work of beating bottom of the table Accrington Stanley 1-0 at the Proact Stadium, however the result will matter les than the fact that this is their best start to a season in 114 years. They took the 3 points with a goal from Tendayi Darikwa 2 minutes into the second half.

Oxford United kept the pressure up with a good 2-0 win at Burton and AFC Wimbledon continued their turn around with a fairly comfortable 2-0 win at York.
