Clyde Preview

East Stirling News Update

Shire will be hoping to return to winning ways after the disappointment of the team’s last outing when they face Clyde at Broadwood Stadium in the latest SPFL Scottish League Two match for the current league leaders.

Coach John Coughlin will have the added option of a fully-fit Scott Maxwell and Jamie Glasgow who both played 90 minutes in Wednesday’s 2-2 Reserve League draw with Alloa Athletic at Stirling University.

But it is unlikely that Ross O’Donoghue will be fit to play. He is still recovering from a slight hamstring tear and has not been able to participate in training this week.

So it looks as though the coach will name almost the same squad as went down 4-1 to Peterhead in their last league outing a fortnight ago for what will be a very difficult encounter.

The Bully Wee have had an up-and-down start to their league campaign having won two and lost two, but their list of victories includes a very impressive 1-0 win over Berwick Rangers. However, in their last outing a fortnight ago they fell 1-0 to Elgin City, a result that gave the Borough Briggs team their first league win of the season.

Broadwood has not proven a happy hunting ground for Shire recently. The team has been given the task of ending a run of five straight defeats in Cumbernauld with the last three point haul being registered back in 2010.

They will also be looking to end a sequence of four successive home wins in this fixture with home advantage being decisive in all four league meetings between the clubs last term.

Saturday’s game will also see the debut of the team’s new blue and white third kit. The jersey will carry a message in support of the charity Parkinson’s UK and the club’s charity of the year will receive a donation for every replica sold.

The referee at Broadwood will be Stevie O’Reilly who took charge of our 3-1 win over Queen’s Park on the opening day of the league season. Kick-off is 3:00pm.
