Carlisle United are the latest club to benefit from the strange phenomenon of suddenly playing well when the encumbering manager is sacked. They looked abysmal in their opening games under Greg Abbot, but since his departure they have strung three wins in a row together and Graham Kavanagh  who is in temporary charge may end up with the job full time if they can continue this form against Shrewsbury. Another win could move them to within striking distance of the playoff places.
